Research Assistant (Postdoctoral Researcher)

The position is offered for a period of 2 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon aspossible date. The position is full-time with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 100 %).

The position is part of the BMBF project "Dynamically Social Natural Language Processing for Online Discourse Analysis". As the position holder you will work in an international and interdisciplinary team on the analysis of NLP data from social media and other resources.

Tasks:

• scientific service in research and supervision of junior scientists
• independent NLP research in the area of modeling the discourse aspects together with the deep contextual representations of user characteristics
• gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period)
• use of transfer and multitask learning techniques across a range of NLP tasks related to social discourse (e.g. opinion detection, emotion and argument analysis and hate speech identification)

The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to the period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period). Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal qualification is given. The limitation of the contract complies to § 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

• University degree in Computer Science (Diploma, Master or equivalent) and a PhD in Computer Science
• experience with deep neural network architectures is expected
• experience with contextual word embeddings, with social network data or with social graph modeling is a plus
• strong programming skills, demonstrated e.g. by previous projects, are desired
• You should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, reliable, creative, and able to pursue research projects both independently and in collaborations
• excellent communication skills in written and spoken English (C1 equivalent) are required                                                                                       

Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
