The Philipps University, founded in 1527, offers multiple award-winning teaching for around 22,000 students and tackles the important issues of our time with excellent research across a broad spectrum of science.

The Department of Medicine, Institute for Lung Research, Prof. Dr. Schmeck is currently accepting applications for a

Postdoc

The position is offered for a period of 2 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).

In the SFB/Transregio 84 (www.sfb-tr84.de) we are investigating the infection biology of pathogens such as pneumococci, legionella, influenza and SARS-CoV2 viruses using state-of-the-art methods. RNA networks in immune and epithelial cells and their communication via extracellular vesicles are analysed using single-cell sequencing and innovative vesicle technologies (UZ, SEC, NTA, Nano-FCM, ExoView, Imaging-Flow Cytometry etc.). For this purpose, we use our excellent core facilities (genomics, proteomics, lipidomics, cell sorting, imaging, biobank), large European patient cohorts and the resources of the German Centres for Lung Research (DZL) and Infection Research (DZIF) as well as the Centre for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO).

Tasks:

  • experimental research on Identification of eukaryotic and bacterial protein motifs from genome and transcriptome data under stress and infection conditions
  • participation in research projects in the team and in our national and international research networks (LOEWE Diffusible Signals, BMBF CAPSYS, ERACoSysMed Sysmed-COPD)
  • publication of results
  • supervision of staff

The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to the period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period). Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal qualification is given. The limitation of the contract complies to § 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • scientific university degree (diploma, master's degree or comparable) in a subject related to the life sciences and a corresponding (nearly) completed doctorate
  • relevant theoretical and practical experience in planning, conducting and publishing studies in the field of immunology, infection biology or pneumology
  • relevant theoretical and practical experience in molecular biological, biochemical and cell or animal experimental working techniques
  • project experience in interdisciplinary projects and ability to work confidently in an international environment
  • high affinity towards methods and questions from bioinformatics

The willingness to pursue your own scientific qualification is expected.
