The Philipps-Universität Marburg has a vacancy in the Faculty of Medicine for a

Professorship (W3) for Medical Biometry and Biostatistics

to be filled.

Tasks:

The position holder represents the field of Medical Biometry and Biostatistics in teaching and research and is head of the Institute for Medical Biometry and Biostatistics (to be founded) within the Centre for Methodological Sciences and Health Research. The scientific focus is on methodological-statistical research with an application-related methodological focus, especially in the field of statistical methods for precision medicine, of health services research and/or of digitalisation in medicine. The position holder co-operates closely with the Marburg Coordination Centre for Clinical Trials (KKS) in the design and evaluation of clinical studies.

The tasks include teaching medical biometry and biostatistics in all programmes of the Department of Medicine, biostatistical management of research projects during all project phases, biometric consulting to members of the Faculty of Medicine including doctoral and post-doctoral students, involvement in programmes such as the Clinician Scientist Programme, as well as the membership in the Ethics Committee as a biometric expert in accordance with the statutes. We expect the participation in the development of the planned interdepartmental Center for Digitalization in Biomedicine and involvement in corresponding programmes.

Profile:

We are looking for an internationally recognised research personality with well above-average publications and successful third-party funding in the above-mentioned areas of medical biometry and biostatistics. Candidates have a master degree and a doctorate in one of the following fields, or an equivalent education and training: statistics, mathematics with a focus on mathematical statistics, biostatistics, or medicine with additional training in statistics. Also required is proof of broad knowledge of the procedures of applied mathematical statistics, many years of experience in the application of statistical methods in medicine and in the supervision of medical research projects documented by high-ranked publications in clinical-scientific journals, as well as the certificate Biometry in Medicine of the German Region of the International Biometric Society and the GMDS or an equivalent qualification. The position is intended to further increase the diversity of research and teaching in the department.

The Universities of Gießen and Marburg have founded a research alliance with the Technical University Mittelhessen for Applied Sciences (the Research Campus Central Hessen) to practice a structured co- operation based on coordinated priorities. There is a further cooperation in teaching and research with the clinic of Fulda as well as Fulda High School. The successful applicant should signal readiness for collaboration with these institutions. Successful acquisition of peer-reviewed external funding is required.
