Established in 1527, Philipps-Universität offers excellent teaching for approximately 22,000 students. With research in a wide spectrum of science, it faces the important issues of our time.

The Institute of Pharmacology at the Medical Faculty, research group of Prof. Dr. Thomas Worzfeld, invites applications for a

PhD in mechanobiology

The position is offered for a period of 3 years and is available immediately. Salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the State of Hesse, Germany, pay scale E13 (65 %).

Tasks:

The Institute of Pharmacology is located at the Biochemical-Pharmacological Center (BPC), and focuses on mechanisms of epithelial communication and regeneration. The aim of the PhD project is to identify and characterize molecular mechanisms of mechanosensation and mechanotransduction relevant to epithelial stem cell function. The applied techniques will comprise cell and molecular biology (including primary stem cell cultures), biochemistry, super-resolution microscopy, and mouse models of epithelial regeneration.

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.
