Research Assistant (PhD student)

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (50 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 50 %).

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research and teaching
  • development of own research projects with high degree of independency
  • synthesis of photosensitive molecules
  • photochemical and biological characterisation of molecules
  • multidisciplinary collaborative work in an international environment
  • international communication of research via articles and oral presentation
  • supervision of students

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy with a strong background in Organic Chemistry or Chemical Biology with synthesis
  • experience in synthesis and photochemical characterisation of photoactive molecules
  • ability to conduct multistep syntheses
  • independent thinking
  • experience (or interest) in biological techniques (cell culture, protein expression, well-plate assays)
  • motivation, passion and the ability to work in a team

The willingness to pursue your own scientific qualification (e.g. a doctoral project in the field of chemical biology focused on photochemical reactions) is expected.
