Doctoral Researcher/PhD

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (50 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 50 %).

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research and development of own research with a high degree of independence
  • design and conduct multistep organic synthesis of photosensitive molecules (photocages, photoswitches) and unnatural amino acids
  • photochemical characterisation (quantum yields, life time, etc)
  • solid-phase synthesis of peptides
  • biological techniques: cell-based experiments
  • scientific communication (written and spoken) in an international environment
  •  supervision of students (teaching service Bachelor and Master students)

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies with § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in chemistry, medicinal chemistry, biotechnology or pharmacy with a strong focus on organic synthesis: multistep synthesis (ideally of photosensitive molecules, i. e., photoswitches and photocages) and photochemistry in the context of biological processes
  • strong theoretical and practical background in organic chemistry (dye chemistry)
  • some experience with biological techniques or willing to learn
  • interest in understanding biological processes at the atomic level
  • self-driven and team player

Disposition to own scientific qualification (e. g. a doctorate in the area of chemistry) is expected.
