Doctoral Researcher/PhD

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. Interviews are expected to take place between the 27th and 31st of January. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).

The newly established research group on Natural Language Processing is seeking applications for a position as Doctoral Researcher in one of the research areas of the group, which include: Methods and Applications of Natural Language Processing, Perspectivism and Disagreement in NLP, AI for Social Good, Legal Tech and NLP Evaluation.

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research and teaching
  • conduct independent research within the interest areas of the group
  • design, develop, and evaluate NLP models and systems with experts from application domains
  • help shaping the research agenda of the group
  • publish results in top-tier academic conferences and journals

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics or a related field
  • experience in Natural Language Processing and programming
  • interest in real-world applications of Natural Language Processing
  • ability to work independently as well as in interdisciplinary teams in an international environment
  • excellent communication skills in English, the ability to communicate in German is beneficial

Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
