Research Assistant (Doctoral Researcher/PhD )

The position is offered for a period of three years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %).

Tasks:

• scientific services in research and teaching
• collaborate with our international partners in a European research consortium (TRACE-PD), funded by the EU Joint Programme Neurodegenerative Disease Research (JPND) and the BMBF and coordinated by our centre
• help with MRI data acquisition from patients with Parkinson‘s disease using a state-of-the-art MR-scanner
• evaluating MRI and PET data with focus on correlates of degeneration and mitigating processes in the early phase of Parkinson‘s disease
• writing scientific texts for publications of the consortium dealing with subcortical degeneration and cortical compensation
• regular methodological exchange with our partners in Germany (Cologne), Sweden (Stockholm), the Netherlands (Nijmegen) and the Czéch Republic (Brno) 

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

• MSc-degree or equivalent in neuroscience, biomedical science, psychology or related disciplines
• experience in analyzing neuroimaging data (PET or MRI)
• existing knowledge in programming languages (e.g. MATLAB, Python, R) is an advantage
• strong interest in research in neurodegenerative disorders, especially neuroimaging of disease-related processes in the early phase of Parkinson‘s disease
• good knowledge of written and spoken English is required
• high level of diligence, ability to work in a team, structured work and organisational skills 

Disposition to own scientific qualification (a doctorate project dealing with neuroimaging markers in Parkinson’s disease) is expected.
