The AFPRO-project at the Center for Conflict Studies is currently accepting applications for two

Research Assistants (Doctoral Researcher/PhD)

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is 1st of August. The position is part-time (75 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 75 %).

Tasks:

  • academic and research related tasks
  • collection of news reports in Dari or Pashto
  • contributing to dataset on protests in Afghanistan
  • researching protests in conflict areas
  • active participation in Institute
  • communicating results at conferences

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in social sciences
  • interest in quantiative methods in social sciences
  • experience with data collection and analysis
  • familiarity with Afghanistan
  • knowledge of at least one local language (e.g. Dari or Pashto)
  • interest in research on protest movements and rebel governance

Disposition to own scientific qualification (e.g. a doctorate project in social sciences) is expected.
