Research Assistant (Doctoral Researcher)

The position is offered for a period of three years, if no former times must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible.  The position is part-time (75 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 75 %).

In our research group we study and develop novel solar cell technologies for a more sustainable energy supply of the future. We are looking for an excellent candidate with enthusiasm for scientific research and sustainable future technologies. Tasks:

  • fabrication and characterization of perovskite solar cells with printable graphite-based back electrodes. These solar cells promise lowest manufacturing cost and low environmental footprint
  • goal of your PhD project should be to understand the performance loss processes at the interfaces of these solar cells and to apply this knowledge to optimize the efficiency and lifetime of the solar cells

For the fabrication of the perovskite solar cells, we are currently building a state-of-the-art glovebox line and various coating systems (spin coating, blade coating, ALD, evaporation system). For characterization, in addition to many established methods, a number of excellent luminescence-based instruments are available (hyperspectral PL imaging, absolute-calibrated PL, various transient methods). We are looking for motivated candidates to further develop this infrastructure with us.

For your research you will be involved in our cooperation with renowned international research groups, e.g. through our Horizon Europe and DFG research projects. You will present your scientific results at international conferences and publish them in peer-reviewed journals.

You will be able to gain teaching experience in particular in the course "Physics of Green Technologies".

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • an university degree (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science or related subjects is required
  • experience in the fabrication or characterization of perovskite solar cells and to be able to work independently and on their own initiative
  • knowledge in the fields of photovoltaics, thin film technologies as well as the characterization and simulation of semiconductor materials is an advantage
