The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.

The Centre for Near and Middle Eastern Studies (CNMS), Department of Middle Eastern Politics, is seeking to fill a third-party-funded position as

Academic Project Coordinator

starting as soon as possible and until 31st March 2027. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13). The location/workplace is Tunis.

The third-party funded project "Merian Centre for Advanced Studies in the Maghreb" (MECAM; www.mecam.tn) is an interdisciplinary research center in Tunis funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Since 2020, it has been supported by a consortium of international academic institutions under the coordination of Philipps University Marburg. Under the guiding theme "Imagining Futures - Dealing with Disparity," MECAM awards international fellowships for research stays in Tunis, Tunisia.

Tasks:

  • responsibility for the overall organizational and administrative coordination of MECAM in close collaboration with the academic directors
  • Co-design, planning, and implementation of all interdisciplinary work formats of MECAM, including budget preparation/control and reporting
  • team leadership in the coordination office in Tunis and management of work processes
  • shared responsibility for project administration at Philipps University Marburg (consortium leader). Communication with the project sponsor
  • shared responsibility for public relations, maintenance of the publication strategy, and maintenance of the cooperation network with international researchers and other Merian centers
  • key organization of the Executive Board (EC) and the Advisory Board (IAB) meetings (e. g., preparation of dossiers)

This is a project position which is not limited in time according to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in social sciences or humanities and doctorate with a regional focus on the Maghreb or MENA region
  • experience in coordinating and implementing international third-party funded projects, including financial planning and budget monitoring
  • experience in policy consulting and knowledge transfer
  • excellent written and spoken English and French; good German skills; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage
  • high level of commitment, strong communication and cooperation skills, and the willingness to travel extensively both domestically and internationally
