The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.

The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Paediatric Nephrology, Children’s Hospital, is currently accepting applications for a

Research Assistant (PhD student)

The position is available immediately and will be offered for a period of 3 years if no former times of qualification must be considered. Salary and benefits offered are commensurate with a public service position in the State of Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 50 %).

We are conducting cutting-edge research to deciphere the interaction of viroporin with transporters of kidney and lung epithelia. Our research employs a wide range of techniques, including protein-protein interactions, protein trafficking assays, gene editing, immunocytochemistry, live-cell imaging, TIRF microscopy, and electrophysiology, to uncover the implications of coronavirus viroporin on the transport systems of kidney and lung towards antiviral drug development.

Tasks:

  • investigate protein-protein interactions
  • conduct electrophysiology experiments for ion channel function analysis
  • study protein trafficking within cells
  • utilize gene editing for functional analysis

The position is limited to  period of time deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctoral degree. The limitation is in accordance with § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • M.Sc. degree or equivalent in biology, biomedical Sciences or a related discipline
  • profound knowledge in one or ideally more of the following techniques of molecular biology, protein biochemistry, electrophysiology or live-cell imaging
  • experience in advanced statistical data analysis and qualification in animal experimentation (e.g. FELASA A) is advantageous
  • research experience or publication in a methodologically or thematically relevant field is an advantage

Disposition to pursue own scientific qualification (e.g. a doctorate project in the field of Physiology and cell biology) is expected.

We actively support the professional development of early career researchers through the Marburg Research Academy (MARA), the International Office and the Higher Education Didactics Office.

We offer:

  • an interesting and broad range of work with internal and external cooperation
  • diverse design opportunities and personal development options
