Research Assistant (PhD student)

The position is initially offered for a period of 3 years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %).

Central research topic of the group is the elucidation of molecular regulatory mechanisms of the neuronal actin cytoskeleton in the context of mammalian brain development/function and human brain diseases. In a multidisciplinary approach, the group combines mouse genetics with biochemical and cell biological approaches as well as with modern microscopy (confocal microscopy, high-resolution microscopy, live cell imaging).

Tasks:

  • working on a DFG funded project on the functional characterization of an actin regulator during brain development in mammals
  • participation in the preparation of scientific publications and presentations
  • supervision of student theses 

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • Master of Science or equivalent degree in biology, neurobiology, biochemistry, medical or life sciences (or equivalent)
  • high motivation and strong background in neurobiology, cell and developmental biology, molecular biology and biochemistry
  • beneficial are expertise in cutting-edge microscopy and mouse genetics as well as permit for animal experimental work
  • willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • good English oral and writing skills
