Doctoral Researcher/PhD student

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (75 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 75 %).

Funded within the Emmy-Noether Program of the German Research Foundation (DFG), the position is situated within the project “What lies beneath lies? Integrating cognitive and emotional experimental approaches to deception”. The project will further investigate the relative contributions of cognitive and emotional processes during lying. To this means, a computer-based deception paradigm will be employed with different dependent measures, from reaction times and event-related potentials to eye movements.

The position is situated in Marburg within the newly established research group led by Prof. Dr. Kristina Suchotzki. Your own ideas and contribution to the project are welcome and encouraged. Your integration in national and international research networks, participation in national and international conferences and workshops as well as the publication of your findings and - if you wish to do so - the writing your own grant proposal will be actively supported.  

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research
  • development of the research design and programming the computer-based experimental task
  • data collection
  • data analysis (preferably with R)
  • publication of the results in international peer-reviewed journals

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc-degree or equivalent in Psychology
  • an interest in experimental quantitative research and the topic of deception
  • experience or interest in the assessment of reaction time and/or biopsychological data
  • first experiences with programming experiments (e. g., with PsychoPy or Inquisit) and in data analysis with R are an advantage, an interest to get to know those and the willingness to work with them is essential
  • committment to open science and good scientific practice
  • proficient English language skills

Disposition to own scientific qualification (e. g. a doctorate project) is expected.
