At the Department of Medicine, Center for Tumor and Immunobiology, Core Facility for "Small Animal Imaging" a temporary position for 4 years with the option of extension after successful evaluation is available.

Postdoctoral researcher “Small Animal Imaging”

The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is full-time with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).


Your tasks will include scientific services in research and teaching, in particular research on animal disease models using the imaging modalities available in the Core Facility such as PET/CT and SPECT/CT, MRI, sonography and optical imaging using luminescence and fluores-cence. You will qualify in the field of small animal nuclear medicine imaging with an independent, internationally visible and externally funded research profile, and contribute significantly to strengthening the research focus at the department. In addition, you will be responsible for the technical and organizational support of the equipment, the coordination of the technical core facility staff, the planning of pre-clinical, animal experimental studies, the establishment of new measurement protocols, the independent performance of complex experiments as well as the professional supervision and guidance of scientists in image and data analysis. You will cooperate closely with working groups from the Department of Medicine, but also with other departments of the Philipps University and external partners, and work as the central contact person of the Core Facility in an interdisciplinary team of scientists.

The position is limited to the period which is adequate to the duration of the qualification period. The qualification goal is a habilitation or an equivalent qualification required for a professorship.  Within the scope of the assigned duties it will offer the possibility of independent scientific research for further qualification. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 S 1 WissZeitVG.


A university degree (diploma, master's degree or equivalent) in the natural and life sciences, an above-average PhD, relevant experience in small animal imaging modalities and certification in laboratory animal science (at least equivalent to FELASA category B) are required. Willingness to become fully familiar with available equipment and methodologies is expected. Fluent language skills in English are required.
Due to your tasks or organizational assignment, there is contact with patient care. Therefore, proof of immunization against COVID-19 and measles in accordance with IfSG is required to fill the position.
