Research Assistant (PhD position)

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (65 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %).

The position is part of the DFG-funded Research Training Group GRK 2573 “The inflammatory tumor secretome – from understanding to novel therapies”.

Scientists from the Universities of Marburg and Giessen initiated this research training group with a focus on the role of the tumor secretome in tumor progression and therapy resistance. The Research Training Group is characterized by its interdisciplinary composition of basic research-oriented as well as clinically active scientists. The inclusion of different tumor entities enables competitive research activity in the field of tumor secretome.

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research
  • sytematic investigation of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from cell culture and patient samples, focusing on their molecular signature in the tumor microenvironment
  • application and further development of state-of-the-art techniques in EV research and molecular analytics
  • modern analytical methods (proteomics, metabolomics and single cell sequencing) are part of the research program

Profile:

  • diploma, master or comparable degree in a relevant natural science field of study
  • proven experience in the isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles (essential) with state-of-the-art techniques such as NTA, nFC, ELISA, Western Blot
  • solid knowledge of EV-related mass spectrometry (proteomics and/or metabolomics), incl. sample preparation and data analysis
  • familarity with current developments and technologies in the field of EVs; willingness to familiarize with new methods
  • high degree of own initiative, structured working method and ability to work in a team in an interdisciplinary environment
  • motivation to actively contribute to the scientific training program and to present research findings on national/international conferences

Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
