Research Assistant (Postdoc)

The position is offered for a period of 4 years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 100 %).

Tasks:

  • participation in the Volkswagen Foundation-funded Momentum project “TeSAR” to explore the chemical universe
  • chemo- and bioinformatic characterization of enzymes from the transferase family with regard to the respective substrate spectrum
  • prediction of transferase substrates using chemoinformatic and machine learning methods
  • close collaboration with the biochemically working postdoc in the selection and expression of transferases
  • further development of a web service for the prediction of possible transferase substrates and products
  • scientific services in research and teaching, in particular the supervision of students in the pharmacy curriculum

This is a project position that is not limited according to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • MSc degree or equivalent in biochemistry, chemistry, chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, pharmacy, or a comparable scientific discipline, as well as a doctorate or proof that you are about to complete a doctorate in a similar field
  • extensive experience in chemoinformatics and/or bioinformatics, the description of chemical reactions with a computer and Linux as an operating system
  • experience with docking, computer-aided ligand design, the handling of large databases of small molecules and the interpretation of NMR spectra of small molecules
  • very good command of English, both spoken and written
  • practical experience with protein expression, cloning and working with E. coli, as well as the transferase family of proteins and their substrates, will be considered an advantage
