Doctoral Researcher/PhD

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (55 % of regular working hours in the first year, then 60 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 55 - 60 %).

The newly established research group Computational Modelling of Behaviour is seeking applicants for a PhD position in one of the following research areas: Collective dynamics and cultural evolution, social decision-making, cognitive modeling, Bayesian statistics, causal inference, cross-cultural methods.

Tasks:

• conducting independent research in the group's areas of interest, e. g., interactive group experiments on social dynamics, cognitive or agent-based modeling, analysis of panel data or large cultural datasets, field research, cross-cultural studies
• scientific services in research and teaching
• contributing to the group’s research agenda and contributing to third-party funding applications
• publishing results at scientific conferences and in journals

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

• good or very good MSc-degree or equivalent in Psychology, Anthropology, Cognitive Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or similar relevant fields
• proven interest in the research topics of the group (demonstrated by a 1-page motivation letter, highlighting previous research experiences and fields of interest)
• interest in and enthusiasm for human behavior, culture, and/or evolution as well as teamwork skills, motivation, conscientiousness, and social competence
• very good English skills (understanding, speaking, reading, writing) and german language skills, or the willingness to acquire them
• expertise in the group's areas of interest and experience with field research are an advantage
• knowledge in (Bayesian) statistics and modeling, programming experience (e. g. in R or Python) and experience with programming, conducting, and/or analyzing behavioral experiments are advantageous

Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
