The position is offered for a period of four years. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).
In the sub-project “pictorial narration and visual representation of antiziganist motifs (1848-1930)” of the research group “Antiziganism and Ambivalence in Europe (1850-1950)”. The position will be classified according to pay group 13 of the collective agreement of the State of Hesse.
The sub-project investigates the constitutive significance of visual antigypsyist stereotypes in figures, motifs and pictorial narratives for the formation of European modernity. Antigypsyist motifs from high and popular culture are to be indexed, catalogued, categorized and evaluated in their structural entirety for the first time in order to ensure coherent art-historical analyses on this basis.
The sub-project is also responsible for setting up a multimodal database, i. e. the technical infrastructure of the research group, in which events, works and people are conected. This digital research environment is intended to enable the mapping and evaluation of antiziganist images, from paintings to advertisements, and to ensure a systematic link with the materials and discourses of the neighboring disciplines involved.
The position is either limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree or adequate for the completion of a habilitation or an equivalent qualification required for a professorship. Within the scope of the assigned duties it will offer the possibility of independent scientific research for further qualification. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 WissZeitVG.
