Research Assistant (Postdoctoral Researcher)

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is 01.12.2022. The position is part-time (75 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13, 75 %).

The position is part of the BMBF project "AnDy - Automatic Analysis of the Dynamics of Dialectal Speech with Artificial Intelligence Methods". As the position holder you will work in an international and interdisciplinary team on the analysis of speech data.


Tasks include scientific service in research and supervision of junior scientists. Tasks include conducting independent research in the area of neural speech recognition and speaker modeling, focused on modeling and analyzing the structure of conversational behavior between standard speech and dialect in regions of Germany, based on the large speech datasets collected at the German Language Atlas (Sprachatlas) Research Center. How is the behavior of the identified speaker types related to specific social, biographical and situational conditions of these individuals?

The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to the period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period). Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal qualification is given. The limitation of the contract complies to § 2 Abs. 1 WissZeitVG.


The successful applicant and will have a university degree in Computer Science (Diploma, Master or equivalent) and a PhD in Computer Science, ideally in the ASR research area. Strong programming skills, demonstrated e.g. by previous projects, are desired. Prior experience with deep neural network architectures is expected. Candidates should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, reliable, creative, and able to pursue research projects both independently and in collaborations. Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English (C1 equivalent) are required.
