Research Assistant (Doctoral Researcher)

The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is part-time (50 % of regular working hours) with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).

The position is in the research group of Prof. Dr. Essen, whose research interests include archaeal structural biology and proteomics. The project involves bioinformatic analysis of archaeal genomes in combination with state-of-the-art proteomic methods to determine archaea-specific biological functions that form a transition to the eukaryotic lineage. Sulfolobus acidocaldarius serves as a model organism.

Tasks:

  • scientific services in research
  • research on a topic addressing the analysis of microbial proteomes
  • independent planning, execution and evaluation of experiments
  • summarizing and presenting research findings

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific research necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2 Abs. 1 Satz 1 WissZeitVG.

Profile:

  • university degree in biochemistry or chemistry/biochemistry (MSc or equivalent)
  • very good knowledge in bioinformatics techniques with focus in proteomics and good understanding of protein chemistry and/or structural biology
  • very good command of written and spoken English
  • above average academic qualification
  • willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team

Disposition to own scientific qualification is expected.
